FEATURED PROJECT:
RETRO REFRESH

The original house had a very retro 70’s style, the homeowners wanted to reimagine and replicate elements in the new house rebuilt by Bobicon Ltd. Sleek and stylish in AyA’s Manhattan Cashew Cherry slab doors with a simple aesthetic captures the retro vibe while presenting a refined design. The homeowners opted for a floating shelf in place of upper cabinets to keep the feel very minimal and open with a full butler’s pantry room just around the corner. The white hand-crafted backsplash tile that runs up the wall really complements the cabinetry while drawing the eye up to the beautiful wood ceilings unifying the living room. A paneled fridge keeps the space modest without drawing attention and the flip-up above provides extra storage. The clean island seats 4 easily, it features a pull-out recycling centre/garbage drawer which makes meal prep clean up effortless. The white waterfall countertop also has a table extension that feels nostalgic with 4 pastel bucket chairs. It’s a lovely detail and cozy eating area which add character to a modern space maintaining a fresh feel.

The open concept living room seamlessly carries over the design sensibilities. A polished and elegant fireplace adds additional storage all throughout the base cabinets and window seat doubling as extra seating for large gatherings. The décor, colours, lounge sofa and lamp really convey the retro vibe but cultivated with a modern touch giving both spaces a sunny and pleasant ambience.

THE COMEBACK TO MID TO DEEP STAINS IN KITCHENS

After years of whitewashed minimalism and cool-toned grays dominating kitchen aesthetics, mid to deep stain cabinetry is making a confident return, and it’s more than just a nostalgic nod. In 2025, homeowners and designers are embracing the richness and warmth of natural wood tones across all door styles, from sleek contemporary profiles to classic shaker door frames. These deeper stains bring a sense of comfort and tradition, while their versatility allows them to pair effortlessly with modern finishes, creating kitchens that feel both timeless and fresh.

This renewed appreciation reflects a broader shift toward emotionally evocative interiors, spaces that feel grounded, authentic, and personal. Brown and darker cabinetry adds depth and character to kitchen renovations, offering a tactile connection to natural materials and craftsmanship. Whether used in heritage homes or modern builds, these tones evoke a sense of permanence and style that transcends fleeting trends.
